Joe Aidoo: Cork City sign Ghana midfielder on free transfer from Al-Sharq Club
Cork City have signed Ghanaian central midfielder Joe Aidoo from Saudi Arabian side Al-Sharq Club on a free transfer. The 26-year-old joins the First Division club after leaving Al-Sharq, completing his move on 16 July.
Aidoo, who operates primarily as a central midfielder, arrives in Ireland with experience across several competitions in South Asia and the Middle East. During his time in the Nepal Super League and its championship phase, along with the Durand Cup, he accumulated more than 20 appearances and contributed goals and assists from midfield, underlining his ability to influence play in the final third as well as in build-up.
Before moving to Al-Sharq Club in 2025, Aidoo had spells with Thunders and Bodoland FC, having first emerged in senior football with Nepal PC in 2023. His recent career has included several free transfers, with clubs in different countries making use of his availability to strengthen their squads without a transfer fee.
Aidoo’s most productive run came across league and cup competitions in Nepal, where his combined appearances showcased his capacity to play significant minutes over a season and chip in with goals at regular intervals. That form helped sustain his place in club football and eventually paved the way for his move to the Middle East and now to the League of Ireland.
The Ghanaian midfielder’s arrival adds further depth to Cork City’s central options, with his transfer from Al-Sharq Club confirmed as a free move.
