German-Nigerian forward Karim Adeyemi completes Barcelona medical ahead of move
German-Nigerian winger Karim Adeyemi has taken another major step towards joining Barcelona after completing his medical examinations, with the Spanish champions expected to confirm his arrival in the coming days.
The 24-year-old arrived in the Catalan city on Wednesday and is poised to become Barcelona’s second signing of the summer transfer window after the acquisition of England international Anthony Gordon.
Medical completed as transfer nears completion
According to reports from Spain, Adeyemi underwent medical tests at a Barcelona hospital on Thursday morning before returning to his hotel after spending around two hours at the facility.
The winger is expected to remain away from Barcelona’s training complex until the transfer is officially completed, meaning he will not yet meet head coach Hansi Flick or his new teammates.
Flick is understood to have played a key role in the move, having previously handed Adeyemi his first opportunity with the German national team.
Dortmund set to receive €29m package
Once Adeyemi receives final medical clearance and Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund complete the exchange of transfer documents, the Bundesliga club will receive a guaranteed fee of €22 million.
The deal also includes a further €7 million in performance-related add-ons.
Official unveiling could be delayed
While Barcelona are expected to announce the signing on Thursday, reports suggest the club could delay the confirmation until Friday.
Adeyemi’s official presentation is not expected to take place until next week, after club president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco return from the FIFA World Cup final between Spain and Argentina at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
The German-Nigerian forward is then expected to hold his first press conference as a Barcelona player, marking the start of a new chapter in his career.
