Galatasaray confirm signing of Nigerian heritage midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu
Turkish champions Galatasaray have officially completed the signing of highly-rated midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu, strengthening their squad ahead of the new season with the arrival of the Nigerian heritage star.
The 22-year-old midfielder joins the Istanbul giants on an initial loan agreement and is expected to play a huge role in the upcoming campaign.
Galatasaray revealed that they have paid a loan fee of £3 million to secure Ugochukwu’s services, with the agreement also including a conditional option to make the transfer permanent. Should certain performance-related conditions be fulfilled, the Turkish champions will have the opportunity to sign the midfielder on a permanent basis for £22.5 million.
The move represents another ambitious addition by Galatasaray as they continue to build a squad capable of competing domestically and making an impact in European competitions. The club views Ugochukwu as a valuable reinforcement in midfield due to his physical presence, technical ability and experience at the highest level.
As part of the agreement, Galatasaray also confirmed the financial terms of the player’s contract. Ugochukwu is set to earn a net salary of €2.65 million during the 2026/27 season as he begins his spell with the Turkish giants.
The midfielder arrives with a strong reputation after developing through French football before making a move to the Premier League. Known for his defensive qualities, athleticism and ability to cover large areas of the pitch, Ugochukwu has been regarded as one of the most promising young midfielders of his generation.
His arrival adds further depth and quality to Galatasaray’s midfield options, with the club hoping his energy and tactical discipline will strengthen their team ahead of a demanding campaign.
Ugochukwu, who has Nigerian heritage but represents France at international level, began his professional career with Rennes before earning a move to Chelsea. His performances in Ligue 1 attracted attention from several European clubs, eventually leading to his switch to England.
The midfielder spent the previous period gaining valuable experience and is now looking to establish himself as a key figure at Galatasaray. The Turkish champions believe the move will benefit both parties, providing Ugochukwu with regular first-team football while adding another talented player to their squad.
With the deal now officially confirmed, Ugochukwu becomes the latest high-profile arrival at Galatasaray, who continue to strengthen their team as they aim to defend their domestic dominance and compete successfully on the European stage.
