Tawfik Bentayeb: Moroccan Union Touarga striker linked with Standard Liege move

Moroccan centre-forward Tawfik Bentayeb of Union Touarga is being linked with a move to Belgian side Standard Liege as the Jupiler Pro League club look to strengthen their attacking options. The 24-year-old, who plays through the middle, has emerged as a potential target as Standard assess forward additions ahead of the new campaign.

Standard’s interest comes with Bentayeb currently valued at around €8 million, a figure that would represent a significant outlay for a player moving from Moroccan football into one of Europe’s more competitive leagues. The Belgian club are understood to be exploring ways to add mobility and goal threat to their front line, with Bentayeb fitting the profile of a central striker able to lead the attack.

Bentayeb has been with Union Touarga in his homeland, where his performances in the domestic game have brought him to the attention of overseas scouts. At 24, he is seen as being at an age where he could adapt to a higher level while still retaining potential resale value, a factor that often shapes recruitment strategy in the Belgian top tier.

Talk of a switch to Standard comes at a time when Union Touarga face the prospect of interest in one of their key attackers, with the Moroccan club likely to weigh the financial benefits of a sale against the difficulty of replacing a starting centre-forward mid-season. Bentayeb remains under contract at Union Touarga for now, with no agreement yet in place for a transfer.
