Cedric Bakambu: DR Congo striker linked with shock Internacional move

Cedric Bakambu, the DR Congo international currently without a club, is being linked with a move to Brazilian side Internacional as the Porto Alegre club explore experienced options to bolster their attack. The 35-year-old centre-forward is a free agent after leaving Real Betis this summer and is understood to be on the shortlist as Internacional weigh up short-term reinforcements.

Bakambu’s availability on a free and a current estimated value of around €1.2 million make him a potentially low-cost addition for a club operating within tight financial parameters. Internacional, competing in Brazil’s Serie A, are believed to be attracted by his proven record across multiple top leagues and his ability to adapt quickly to new environments.

The forward spent the second half of his most recent club campaign at Betis, where he was part of the squad that reached the Europa Conference League final in 2024–25 and finished as the competition’s runner-up. Earlier in his career he built a strong reputation in Spain with Villarreal, scoring 36 La Liga goals in 122 appearances, and he has been prolific in China and Greece, including a top-scorer season in the Greek Super League with 18 goals in 2022–23.

On the international stage, Bakambu has recently featured for DR Congo at the 2026 World Cup, appearing in three of their four matches. Having left Betis at the end of his contract on 1 July 2026, he is now free to negotiate directly with interested clubs, with Internacional among those assessing whether to turn initial interest into a formal offer.
