Bastien Meupiyou: Strasbourg eye move for France-Cameroon defender from Alverca
France-Cameroon centre-back Bastien Meupiyou of Alverca is being linked with a move to Ligue 1 side Strasbourg as the French club explore defensive reinforcements for the new season.
The 20-year-old, who was born in Paris and stands at 1.91m, has emerged as one of Alverca’s key performers in Liga Portugal, featuring regularly at the heart of their defence. He has made 30 league appearances for the Portuguese club, clocking more than 2,600 minutes in the top flight and establishing himself as a first-team regular.
Meupiyou, a left-footed central defender, joined Alverca in July 2025 from Wolves’ under-21 set-up. His impact in Portugal has been reflected in his valuation, which has risen to around €7m, a figure likely to frame any negotiations between the two clubs.
Strasbourg’s interest would represent a return to French football for Meupiyou, who came through the ranks at Nantes and made his Ligue 1 debut there before moving to England and then to Portugal. His contractual situation could give Alverca a strong hand in talks, with the player tied to the club until June 2028.
There is no agreement in place and discussions are understood to be at an exploratory stage, but Strasbourg are monitoring Meupiyou closely as they assess options to strengthen their central defensive options ahead of the upcoming campaign.
