Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang: Marseille’s Gabon striker linked with surprise Deportivo La Coruna move

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the Gabon international forward currently at Marseille, is being linked with a surprise switch to LaLiga side Deportivo La Coruna. The 37-year-old, who also holds French nationality, is under contract at the Stade Velodrome until 30 June 2027 but is attracting interest from Spain as Deportivo weigh up adding a proven goalscorer to their attack.

Aubameyang rejoined Marseille in July 2025 on a free transfer from Saudi Pro League club Al-Qadsiah and is currently valued at around €2.5 million. Any move to Spain would therefore be expected to involve only a modest fee, though there is no indication yet that formal negotiations have begun or that Marseille are prepared to sell.

Deportivo’s interest is understood to centre on Aubameyang’s extensive top-level pedigree. He has been a prolific scorer across Europe’s major leagues, notably hitting 98 Bundesliga goals for Borussia Dortmund and 69 in the Premier League for Arsenal, and has also scored 20 times in the UEFA Champions League. His LaLiga track record is brief but impressive, with 11 goals in 18 appearances during an earlier spell in Spain.

The forward has a long-established reputation as a finisher in European competition, reflected in his 34 goals from 62 Europa League outings and a top-scorer award in that tournament in 2018-19. His honours include domestic cup wins in Germany, France and England, as well as the 2015 African Footballer of the Year award.

For now Aubameyang remains part of Marseille’s squad and tied to a deal running through 2027, leaving the French club in a strong position should Deportivo choose to test their resolve later in the window.
