Kaizer Chiefs held by Al Kholood as pre-season preparations continue in Spain
Kaizer Chiefs continued their preparations for the upcoming season with another draw during their pre-season training camp in Spain after playing out a 1-1 stalemate against Saudi Pro League side Al Kholood.
The Soweto giants, who are using the European camp to fine-tune their squad under new head coach Fernando da Cruz, took the lead through promising striker Wandile Duba, who found the back of the net to give Amakhosi an advantage.
However, Chiefs were unable to hold on to their lead as Al Kholood fought back late in the contest, scoring the equaliser with just eight minutes remaining to ensure the match ended all square.
The result marks Chiefs’ second consecutive draw in Spain, following their opening pre-season fixture against Scottish giants Glasgow Rangers last Sunday. That encounter also ended 1-1, with striker Etiosa Ighodaro scoring for the South African side.
The ongoing camp has provided Da Cruz with an opportunity to assess his players and implement his tactical ideas ahead of the new campaign. The French coach arrived during the off-season as part of Chiefs’ rebuilding process and has already begun shaping the squad according to his vision.
So far, Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed two new signings ahead of the season. Goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner and defender Thabo Moloisane are the club’s only new additions as the Soweto giants continue to evaluate potential reinforcements.
The club’s performances in Spain have offered early signs of progress, although Da Cruz will be looking for greater consistency and improved results as preparations intensify.
Kaizer Chiefs are scheduled to conclude their pre-season camp in Spain on Sunday, with the final fixture expected to give the technical team another opportunity to assess the squad before returning home for the new season.
