El Hadji Malick Diouf: Aston Villa eye move for West Ham’s Senegal left-back
El Hadji Malick Diouf, the Senegal defender currently at West Ham United, is being linked with a move to Aston Villa as the Midlands club explore options at left-back ahead of the new Premier League season.
Diouf, 21, joined West Ham from Slavia Prague on 15 July 2025 for a fee of €22m and is under contract at the London club until 30 June 2030. His current market valuation stands at €28m, a figure that is likely to frame any negotiations should Villa decide to formalise their interest.
Despite West Ham’s relegation to the Championship in the 2025-26 campaign, Diouf established himself as a regular, making 32 Premier League appearances and contributing five assists from defence. The left-footer’s profile has also been raised on the international stage, featuring for Senegal at the 2026 World Cup with three appearances at the tournament.
Before his move to England, Diouf won the Czech title with Slavia Prague in the 2024-25 season, a campaign that helped accelerate his rise from earlier spells in Norway and Senegal. His performances in European competition, including outings in the Europa League and Champions League qualifying rounds, added to his experience against higher-level opposition.
Any deal would require Villa to persuade West Ham to part with a key asset just one year after his arrival in London. With Diouf tied to a long-term contract until 2030 and having quickly become a first-team regular, West Ham are under no immediate pressure to sell as speculation over Villa’s interest continues.
