Lawrence Agyekum: Ghanaian Cercle Brugge midfielder linked with Rapid Vienna move

Ghanaian midfielder Lawrence Agyekum of Cercle Brugge is being linked with a move to Austrian Bundesliga side Rapid Vienna as the 22-year-old attracts interest ahead of the new season.

Agyekum is under contract with Cercle Brugge until 30 June 2029, meaning any deal would require the Belgian club’s agreement, with his current market value listed at around €1.5 million. Rapid Vienna are thought to be exploring options to strengthen in central midfield, with Agyekum’s profile and age fitting into the club’s recruitment plans.

The right-footed central midfielder joined Cercle on a permanent basis on 1 July 2025, when the Belgian side paid around €800,000 to sign him from Red Bull Salzburg following a successful loan spell in Bruges during the 2024-25 season. His performances in the Jupiler Pro League since that initial loan have helped consolidate his reputation, drawing renewed attention from clubs outside Belgium.

Agyekum previously came through the Red Bull Salzburg system, including multiple stints with feeder side FC Liefering, and was part of the Salzburg squad that won the Austrian title in the 2022-23 season. That familiarity with Austrian football is understood to be a factor in Rapid’s interest as they weigh potential midfield targets.

Having turned 22 in November 2003 and standing at 1.74m, Agyekum has time on his side, but Cercle’s firm contractual position and his long-term deal give the Belgian club little pressure to sell in this window. As it stands, the Ghanaian remains a Cercle Brugge player with four years left on his contract while Rapid Vienna monitor his situation.
