Bachir Diop: Franco-Senegalese midfielder joins Chateaubriant on free transfer
Franco-Senegalese midfielder Bachir Diop has joined Voltigeurs de Chateaubriant after a spell without a club, strengthening the National 2 side’s options in defensive midfield. The 23-year-old arrives on a free transfer, having most recently been with Alberes Argeles in France.
Diop, born in Rosny-sur-Seine, moves back into the French pyramid after leaving Alberes Argeles in the summer of 2025 and spending the following year unattached. He is primarily a holding midfielder and will be available immediately for Chateaubriant after completing the move on 14 July 2026.
Before his break from club football, Diop built up experience across France and Luxembourg. He came through the youth ranks at Troyes, progressing from the U19s to ESTAC Troyes’ reserve side in 2020. He later joined Pau FC’s B team in 2022, again on a free transfer, before moving abroad to Luxembourg with Schifflange 95 in January 2023.
During his time with Pau and Schifflange, Diop featured regularly at senior level, including in National 2 and National 3 in France and in Luxembourg’s top two divisions. Across those spells he accumulated more than 60 competitive appearances and showed an ability to contribute goals from deep, notably scoring three times in 14 games in Luxembourg’s Ehrenpromotion and adding further goals in the French lower leagues.
Diop’s arrival gives Chateaubriant additional depth in central areas as the club prepares for the new campaign, with the defensive midfielder signing on a permanent basis after his year as a free agent.
