Zidane Vaz: Spanish-Senegalese winger joins Zurich City SC on free transfer
Spanish-Senegalese midfielder Zidane Vaz has joined Zurich City SC from FC Freienbach on a free transfer. The 26-year-old left-sided player has signed a deal with the Swiss club running until 30 June 2027.
Vaz, who was born in Almeria and is comfortable operating on the left flank of midfield, switches to Zurich City after two seasons in the Swiss 1. Liga. He arrives from Freienbach, where he also signed as a free agent in 2024.
Zurich City, who compete in 2. Liga Interregional Group 3, add a player with consistent experience in the Swiss lower leagues. Across his time in 1. Liga groups 2 and 3 and the Swiss Cup qualifiers, Vaz has made more than 70 competitive appearances, scoring nine goals, largely from the left side of midfield.
Before his move to Switzerland, Vaz played for a series of Spanish clubs, including spells with UD Fuente de Cantos, CD Calamonte, Ciudad Real, Cartagena FC and CD Adra after leaving La Canada’s youth set-up. He first moved to Swiss football in January 2023 when he joined FC Wohlen, again as a free transfer.
Standing at 1.84m, Vaz adds height and senior experience to Zurich City’s wide options as they prepare for the 2026-27 campaign. His arrival continues a career path built on successive free transfers and steady playing time across regional and national competitions.
Vaz’s move from FC Freienbach to Zurich City SC is a permanent free transfer effective from 14 July 2026.
