Chikezie Okolie: Nigerian defender joins SSV Kastorf on free transfer

Nigerian defender Chikezie Okolie has joined German club SSV Kastorf on a free transfer from VfL Oker.

The 21-year-old has signed a deal running until 30 June 2027 with the lower-league Braunschweig side, committing his next season to the club as they prepare for the new campaign. The move keeps Okolie in Germany after a short spell at VfL Oker, where he arrived earlier in 2026.

Okolie, who is listed primarily as a defender, switches to Kastorf following a series of moves across Europe in the last two seasons. Before his time at Oker, he spent part of the 2025-26 campaign with Future PA, having initially joined them after a period in Sweden.

His Scandinavian experience came with Hammarby TFF, where he moved on loan from Future PA in January 2025. That spell concluded in November 2025, after which he returned to the parent club before securing his first move to Germany.

Okolie’s career to date has taken him through different leagues and development environments, including appearances in the Swedish Ettan Norra and the Superettan relegation play-offs. His versatility across the back line and exposure to contrasting styles of football have formed the basis of his early senior career.

Born on 3 September 2004, Okolie is part of a younger generation of Nigerian players building careers in European football. His arrival at SSV Kastorf 1922 marks the latest step in that journey and completes a free transfer from VfL Oker ahead of the 2026-27 season.
