Djegui Koita: Mali-French defender joins Montlouis after spell without club
Mali-born French centre-back Djegui Koita has joined Montlouis, ending a year without a club for the 26-year-old defender.
Koita arrives as a free agent after leaving Jura Sud in the summer of 2025 and spending the 2025-26 campaign unattached. The right-footed centre-back adds experience and physical presence to Montlouis’ back line, standing at 1.90m and with a substantial body of games in the French league system.
Born in Bamako in August 1999, Koita developed in France and progressed through the youth ranks at EA Guingamp, moving from their U17 to U19 sides before stepping up to Guingamp’s B team in 2018. He later established himself in the semi-professional tiers, notably featuring for Jura Sud across multiple spells and a short stint with Andrezieux.
Koita has accumulated more than 100 appearances in France’s National and National 2 divisions, as well as game time in domestic cup competitions, underlining his familiarity with the demands of senior football. His career has also included minutes in Ligue 1 and the Coupe de la Ligue earlier in his development, adding top-level exposure to his profile.
The move to Montlouis, confirmed on 14 July 2026, offers Koita a fresh platform to relaunch his career and reinforce the club’s central defensive options on a free transfer.
