Foster Gyamfi: Ghanaian defender joins IFK Mariehamn from Bechem United
Ghanaian centre-back Foster Gyamfi has joined Finnish top-flight side IFK Mariehamn from Bechem United. The 22-year-old defender arrives in the Veikkausliiga on a completed move and has signed a contract running until 31 December 2028.
Left-footed and 1.85m tall, Gyamfi strengthens Mariehamn’s central defensive options as they look to bolster their back line for the coming campaigns. His switch to Finland follows a spell in the Ghanaian Premier League, where he featured regularly for Bechem United.
Gyamfi’s move to Bechem United came in December 2025, after a period in European football which included time in the Czech Republic with Zbrojovka Brno and in Denmark with Esbjerg fB’s youth ranks. He previously joined Zbrojovka Brno on a free transfer from VIM SC in February 2025, having first linked up with the Czech side on loan from Esbjerg’s under-19s.
Before returning to Ghana, Gyamfi gained experience across league and cup competitions, including appearances in the Czech second tier and youth tournaments. Earlier in his career, he made his name in Denmark by helping Esbjerg fB win the Danish third tier in 2024, an achievement that highlighted his potential in senior football.
Born in Nkwanta in January 2004, Gyamfi has also featured in youth leagues where he added goals and assists to his game, underlining his ability to contribute at both ends of the pitch. His current market value is listed at €50,000.
The defender’s long-term deal means IFK Mariehamn have secured Gyamfi’s services until the end of 2028 as he begins a new chapter in the Finnish Veikkausliiga.
