Mohamed Mara: Guinea-born winger joins Araz-Nakhchivan on free transfer from Kanchanaburi FC
Guinea-born winger Mohamed Mara has joined Azerbaijani side Araz-Nakhchivan on a free transfer from Thai club Kanchanaburi FC. The 29-year-old, who also holds French nationality, has signed a deal running until 30 June 2027 with the Premyer Liqa outfit.
Mara, a right-footed left winger, moves to Azerbaijan after a productive spell in Thailand, where he featured in both Thai League and Thai League 2. He leaves Kanchanaburi having initially arrived there on loan from Ratchaburi FC before making the switch permanent in 2025, and now becomes one of Araz-Nakhchivan’s attacking reinforcements ahead of the new campaign.
Born in Conakry and standing at 1.76m, Mara brings experience across different levels of French and Thai football. His career includes spells in France’s lower divisions with clubs such as Hyeres 83 and Stade Briochin, as well as time in Ligue 2 and Ligue 1 earlier in his career. In Thailand, he delivered a steady output of goals and assists in both tiers, including a particularly strong run in Thai League 2 and its play-offs.
Mara’s most notable honour to date is winning the French second tier title with FC Lorient in the 2019-20 season, a campaign that marked the peak of his time in French professional football. He later departed Lorient for Thonon Evian on a free transfer before working his way back to prominence through consistent performances.
With an estimated market value of €350,000 at the time of his move, Mara now embarks on the next stage of his career in the Premyer Liqa after completing his switch from Kanchanaburi FC to Araz-Nakhchivan.
