Durban City close in on former Kaizer Chiefs star Gaston Sirino
Newly promoted Durban City are reportedly on the verge of completing the signing of former Kaizer Chiefs attacker Gastón Sirino as they strengthen their squad ahead of a demanding 2026/27 campaign.
The Uruguayan forward is currently a free agent after Kaizer Chiefs opted not to renew his contract following the expiration of his deal, bringing an end to his three-year spell at Naturena.
Sirino arrived at Amakhosi with high expectations after establishing himself as one of the Premier Soccer League’s standout performers during his successful stint with Mamelodi Sundowns. However, he struggled to replicate the same form at Chiefs, where he failed to consistently make the impact many supporters had anticipated.
Despite his difficult spell in Soweto, Durban City believe the experienced attacker still has plenty to offer, particularly with the club preparing to compete on multiple fronts next season.
The KwaZulu-Natal outfit will participate in the CAF Confederation Cup alongside their domestic commitments, making squad depth a top priority. Club officials are reportedly keen to add experienced campaigners capable of handling the physical and tactical demands of a congested fixture schedule.
Sirino’s vast continental experience is viewed as a major asset. Having previously won the CAF Champions League with Mamelodi Sundowns, the 34-year-old brings valuable leadership, creativity and big-match experience that could prove crucial as Durban City embark on their maiden continental adventure.
As per sources, negotiations are at an advanced stage, with Sirino’s move to Durban City expected to be finalised soon. An official announcement confirming his arrival is understood to be imminent as the club continues to bolster its squad for the challenges that lie ahead.
