Rabbi Matondo: Stoke City linked with move for SK Brann winger

Wales international Rabbi Matondo is being linked with a return to Stoke City, with the Championship club understood to be exploring a move for the SK Brann winger.

Matondo, 25, only joined Norwegian side Brann from Rangers on a free transfer on 31 March 2026 and is under contract until 31 December 2026, but his situation is being monitored as Stoke assess wide options ahead of the new season. The Liverpool-born attacker, who represents Wales and is also eligible for DR Congo, is currently valued at around €900,000.

The right-footed left winger has had limited involvement since arriving in the Eliteserien, making three league appearances for Brann in 2026 so far, all from the bench, and featuring for just 3% of available minutes without registering a goal or assist. Any move from Stoke is likely to take into account both his lack of recent game time and the short length of his deal in Bergen.

A switch to the bet365 Stadium would mark Matondo’s second spell with Stoke, following a loan stint from Schalke in the 2020-21 season. Since then he has experienced a series of moves, including a permanent transfer to Rangers in July 2022 and a loan to Hannover 96 in early 2025, before leaving Ibrox for Brann this spring.

Matondo’s honours include a Scottish League Cup win with Rangers in the 2023-24 campaign, adding top-level silverware to his CV. For now he remains a Brann player with six months left on his contract, while Stoke weigh up whether to formalise their interest.
