Simon Appiah: Ghana midfielder joins Thisted FC on free transfer from Ishøj IF

Ghanaian attacking midfielder Simon Appiah has joined Danish side Thisted FC on a free transfer from Ishøj IF.

The 24-year-old moves up a division to the NordicBet Liga 2. Division club and has signed a deal running until 31 December 2027. Appiah, who plays primarily as an attacking midfielder and is right-footed, becomes one of Thisted’s notable additions ahead of the new campaign.

Appiah arrives after two seasons in Scandinavia, most recently with Ishøj IF in the Danish 3. Division, having previously featured for Mjøndalen in Norway. His switch to Thisted marks a return to a higher competitive level, following earlier experience in Norway’s OBOS-ligaen and 2. Division as well as cup competition.

Across his time in Norway and Denmark, Appiah has built up regular first-team exposure, making more than 100 senior appearances in league and cup competitions. That spell includes outings in Norway’s top flight, where he recorded five goals in 32 Premier League appearances, and further goals and assists in the country’s lower divisions.

Born on 1 June 2002 and standing at 1.80m, Appiah began his professional career with Liberty Professionals in Ghana before earning his move to Europe. His subsequent free transfer to Ishøj IF in 2024 set up this latest step in Denmark.

Appiah’s contract ties him to Thisted FC until the end of 2027, confirming the Ghanaian as part of the club’s medium-term plans in the 2. Division.
