Youri Tielemans: Man Utd eye move for Aston Villa and Belgium midfielder
Youri Tielemans, the Belgium international midfielder currently at Aston Villa, is being linked with a move to Manchester United as the Old Trafford club assess options to strengthen their central midfield this summer.
United’s interest comes after Tielemans played a prominent role in Aston Villa’s recent success, including their Europa League triumph in the 2025-26 season. The 29-year-old, who is under contract at Villa Park until 30 June 2028, is regarded as one of the Premier League’s more experienced midfielders, having made 244 appearances in the competition with 26 goals and 39 assists.
Tielemans joined Villa on a free transfer from Leicester City on 1 July 2023 and his performances since have helped restore his market value to around €30m. Any deal is therefore expected to require a significant fee, with Villa under no pressure to sell given the length of his current contract.
The Sint-Pieters-Leeuw-born player further enhanced his reputation at international level at the 2026 World Cup, scoring twice in five appearances as Belgium reached the latter stages of the tournament. He had previously been part of the Belgium squad that finished third at the 2018 World Cup.
Tielemans’ CV also includes major honours in England and Europe, notably an FA Cup win with Leicester City in 2021 before adding the Europa League title with Villa in 2025-26. Those achievements, combined with consistent minutes at club and international level, have made him an attractive target for clubs seeking proven midfield quality.
For now, Tielemans remains an Aston Villa player, tied to the club for another two years, and any progress towards a move to Old Trafford is expected to hinge on negotiations between the two Premier League sides.
