Malang Sarr, the France-Senegal centre-back currently without a club, is being linked with a move to LaLiga side Real Sociedad as the Basque club explore defensive reinforcements this summer.

Sarr, 27, became a free agent on 1 July after leaving RC Lens, and Real Sociedad are understood to be assessing a potential deal that would not require a transfer fee. The left-footed defender is valued at around 20 million, a figure that reflects his experience at the top level despite his current unattached status.

The former Chelsea defender joined Lens on a free transfer in July 2024 and went on to help the club to silverware, lifting the French Cup in the 2025-26 season. His return to Ligue 1 followed loan spells with Porto and Monaco, as Chelsea sought to give him regular minutes across domestic and European competitions.

Sarr built his reputation at Nice, progressing from the youth ranks to the first team in 2016 before earning a move to the Premier League four years later. He has already featured in Ligue 1, the Premier League and the Champions League, and was part of the Chelsea squad that won the FIFA Club World Cup in 2022.

Real Sociedad, preparing for another demanding campaign in LaLiga, are keen to add experience and depth at centre-back, and Sarrs availability on a free transfer makes him an attractive option. For now, the defender remains without a club as he weighs up his next move.
