Ahmed Hamdi: Egypt midfielder joins Ittihad Alexandria on free transfer from Zamalek

Egypt midfielder Ahmed Hamdi has joined Ittihad Alexandria on a free transfer from Zamalek, signing a contract with the Premier League club until June 2029.

The 28-year-old central midfielder returns to Alexandria after 18 months with Zamalek, where he arrived in January 2024 following a spell in Major League Soccer with CF Montreal. His move keeps him in the Egyptian top flight, with Ittihad adding an experienced, right-footed playmaker to their midfield options.

Cairo-born Hamdi has built a career across domestic and international competitions, featuring in the Egyptian Premier League, MLS and continental tournaments. He has made 65 league appearances in Egypts top division, scoring eight goals and providing four assists, as well as gaining experience in the CAF Confederation Cup and CAF Champions League.

Hamdi first left Egypt for North America in February 2021 when he joined Montreal from El Gouna, initially on loan before the move was made permanent the following year. He went on to play 45 MLS matches for the Canadian side before returning home with his switch to Zamalek.

Standing at 1.77m and operating primarily as a central midfielder, he adds versatility and experience to Ittihads squad, having also appeared in domestic cup competitions including the Egypt Cup and Egyptian League Cup.

Hamdis arrival on a free transfer and his three-year deal confirm Ittihad Alexandrias latest piece of business ahead of the new campaign.
