Azzedine Ounahi: Real Sociedad eye move for Girona and Morocco midfielder
Azzedine Ounahi, the Morocco international midfielder currently at Girona, is being linked with a move to LaLiga side Real Sociedad as the Basque club explore options to strengthen their central midfield this summer.
Ounahi, 26, is under contract at Girona until June 2030 but Gironas recent relegation from the Spanish top flight has raised questions over the futures of several senior players. Real Sociedad are monitoring the situation closely as they look to take advantage of Gironas change in status in the Spanish pyramid.
The Casablanca-born midfielder joined Girona from Marseille in August 2025 in a deal worth 6m and is currently valued at around 10m. Gironas investment and his long-term contract mean any negotiation is expected to be complex, with the Catalan club under no immediate pressure to sell from a contractual standpoint.
Ounahi has already shown he can adapt to Spanish football, registering five goals and three assists in 24 LaLiga appearances for Girona before their drop. His form at club level has been accompanied by an influential role with Morocco, for whom he featured at the 2026 World Cup, scoring twice in six matches, and was part of the squad that lifted the Africa Cup of Nations title in 2025.
Real Sociedads interest comes as they assess experienced, technically proficient midfielders with recent European and international exposure, with Ounahi having played in both the Europa League and Conference League earlier in his career. For now, the Morocco midfielder remains a Girona player on a long-term deal, with his future likely to hinge on whether the club decide to cash in following relegation.
