Azzedine Ounahi: Atletico Madrid eye move for Morocco and Girona midfielder
Atletico Madrid are exploring a move for Morocco international Azzedine Ounahi, with the Girona central midfielder emerging as a target as the LaLiga club look to strengthen in the middle of the pitch following Gironas relegation to LaLiga2.
The 26-year-old, born in Casablanca, is under contract at Girona until 30 June 2030 but could be available for around his current valuation of 10m, a fee viewed as accessible for a top-flight side. Atletico are monitoring his situation closely after a season in which Girona dropped out of LaLiga, raising the prospect that the Catalan club may need to listen to offers for key assets.
Ounahi joined Girona from Marseille on 30 August 2025 for 6m and has since established himself as a regular, making 24 LaLiga appearances and contributing five goals and three assists. His form has carried into the international arena, where he started the majority of Moroccos matches at the 2026 World Cup, scoring twice in six games and underlining his importance to the Africa Cup of Nations winners of 2025.
The midfielders blend of domestic top-flight experience in France, Greece and Spain, alongside European outings in the Europa League and Conference League, is understood to appeal to Atletico as they assess options with proven exposure to high-level competition.
No formal bid has yet been lodged, and Girona are protected by the length of Ounahis deal, which runs for four more years, leaving the Spanish second-tier side in a strong position to negotiate any departure.
