Kenean Markneh: Ethiopia midfielder joins Al-Arabi on free transfer from Al-Shabab SC
Ethiopia attacking midfielder Kenean Markneh has joined Kuwaiti side Al-Arabi on a free transfer from Al-Shabab SC. The 29-year-old, who stands at 1.90m and operates primarily as an attacking midfielder, has signed a deal running until 30 June 2027.
Markneh moves after an eye-catching spell with Al-Shabab SC in the Jindal League, where he scored 21 goals and provided two assists in 22 appearances, averaging a goal roughly every game. His form there followed a productive run across league and continental action in recent seasons, including goals in both the Libyan Premier League and the AFC Challenge League.
The Adama-born playmaker, a right-footer, first established himself in his home country with Adama Ketema before moving to Kidus Giorgis. He then left Ethiopia for Mechal and later Al-Madina, building experience across different competitions before switching to Shabab Al-Ghar and subsequently Al-Shabab SC, both on free transfers.
Markneh arrives at Al-Arabi with his market value currently estimated at around 350,000, underlining the low-risk nature of the deal for the Kuwaiti club. His combination of physical presence and attacking output from midfield is expected to add an extra goal threat to Al-Arabis squad.
Having completed his move on 11 July 2026, Markneh is now under contract with Al-Arabi until the end of the 2026-27 season.
