Ashley Du Preez: Kaizer Chiefs striker linked with Stellenbosch FC return
South African forward Ashley Du Preez is being linked with a return to Stellenbosch FC from Kaizer Chiefs in an all-Betway Premiership move. The 28-year-old centre-forward, currently on the books at Chiefs, is the subject of interest from his former club as they explore options to strengthen their attack ahead of the new campaign.
Du Preez, valued at around 800,000 as of early June, left Stellenbosch for Chiefs in July 2022 for a reported 600,000 fee. Any potential deal would therefore involve a player who remains a significant asset for the Soweto side, with negotiations likely to focus on how close Stellenbosch are willing to come to his current valuation.
Since moving to Chiefs, Du Preez has added silverware to his CV, lifting the Nedbank Cup in the 2024-25 season. His performances in domestic competition have been steadily accumulated over his career, with more than 140 Betway Premiership appearances and a return of 24 goals and 15 assists, underlining his experience at the top level in South Africa.
Born in Stellenbosch in the Western Cape and naturally left-footed, Du Preez previously emerged as a key figure for Stellenbosch FC before earning his switch to Chiefs, a trajectory that adds intrigue to the prospect of a homecoming. His time in Johannesburg has also brought further exposure in cup competitions, bolstering his profile within the league.
With no public indication of a fixed contract end date at Chiefs, any transfer back to Stellenbosch would be expected to come via agreement between the clubs rather than on a free, adding another layer of complexity to ongoing discussions over his future.
