Samuel John Nwachukwu: Italian-Nigerian defender joins Lumezzane on loan from Hellas Verona
Italian-Nigerian centre-back Samuel John Nwachukwu has joined Serie C side Lumezzane on loan from Hellas Verona. The 20-year-old defender, who stands at 1.91m, will spend the 2026-27 season with the Lombardy club after the deal was concluded on 10 July.
Born in Udine and comfortable on the right side of central defence, Nwachukwu moves in search of regular first-team football following his progression through youth and under-20 football in Italy. His contract with Lumezzane runs until 30 June 2027, in line with the duration of the loan agreement from Verona.
Nwachukwu arrives with experience across Italys youth and professional pyramid. He featured in both Primavera 1 and Primavera 2, making over 60 appearances at under-19 level and adding minutes in the Coppa Primavera, before stepping up to senior football. He has already appeared in Serie C groups A and B, as well as in the Coppa Italia and play-off matches, building a varied competitive background for his age.
Before returning to Verona and securing the move to Lumezzane, Nwachukwu spent part of last season on loan at Arzignano, having previously been on the books of Udinese at under-17 and under-19 level. His current market value is listed at 100,000, underlining Lumezzanes decision to strengthen their defensive options with a player already exposed to professional football.
The deal means Nwachukwu will play the upcoming campaign in Serie C Girone A, with an agreement in place for him to return to Hellas Verona at the end of the loan on 30 June 2027.
