South African centre-back Thendo Mukumela of Black Leopards is being linked with a move to Betway Premiership side Kruger United as the top-flight club looks to reinforce its defence ahead of the new campaign.

Mukumela, 28, has emerged as a target following a season in which he re-established himself at Leopards after returning to the club on a permanent basis in August 2024 from AmaZulu. Kruger United are understood to be focusing on experienced domestic options, with the right-footed defender fitting that profile and already proven in South African football.

The Limpopo-born defender has featured regularly in recent seasons, including in league action and high-stakes promotion-relegation play-offs, where he has also chipped in with an assist. His exposure to knockout competition, notably in the Nedbank Cup, has added to his reputation as a dependable option in pressure situations.

Mukumelas career has largely been built within South Africa, with earlier spells at Sundowns, Ajax Cape Town and Cape Town Spurs before his move to AmaZulu in 2022. His subsequent loan to Black Leopards for the 202324 season paved the way for his permanent switch back to the club in 2024.

Black Leopards are thought to be reluctant to lose a defender who has become an important part of their back line, but interest from a Premiership club could prompt discussions over his future. Mukumela remains under contract at Leopards, and any move to Kruger United would hinge on the clubs reaching an agreement over the coming weeks.
