Yann Kembo: Sporting Gijon centre-back linked with Unionistas CF move

France and DR Congo defender Yann Kembo of Sporting Gijon is being linked with a move to Unionistas CF in Spains Primera Federacion Group I. The 24-year-old centre-back, who is under contract at El Molinon until 30 June 2028, is understood to be attracting interest from the Salamanca-based club as they look to strengthen their back line for the new campaign.

Kembo, a 1.96m left-footed central defender, returned to Sporting Gijon this summer after a loan spell at UD Ibiza during the 2025-26 season. His situation is being monitored as Unionistas explore defensive options in the market, with Kembo currently valued at around 100,000.

Born in Le Mans and eligible for both France and DR Congo, Kembo has built his senior career in Spain after coming through the ranks at RC Lens. He moved from Lens reserve side to Sportings B team in February 2023 before stepping up to Sporting Gijons first team, and has since gained minutes in LaLiga2 and the Copa del Rey.

Kembo joined Sporting Gijons senior set-up in July 2024 and has featured across league and cup competitions, including 13 appearances in the third tier in one recent campaign. His combination of size and left-footed profile has made him a flexible option in Sportings defensive plans, but his long-term contract means any deal is likely to require negotiation rather than a low-cost exit.
