‘Come to Barca’ – Lamine Yamal fuels Julian Alvarez transfer storm with bold Barcelona invitation
Lamine Yamal has intensified speculation surrounding Julián Álvarez’s future after sending a public message urging the Atlético Madrid striker to join FC Barcelona this summer.
The teenage Barcelona star made his feelings clear as the transfer saga involving the Argentina international continues to gather momentum, insisting Alvarez would be a perfect match for the Catalan giants’ style of play.
Atlético Madrid remain determined to keep hold of their prized forward after rejecting a £130 million offer from Real Madrid earlier in June. The club are reportedly refusing to lower their valuation, despite growing interest from some of Europe’s biggest teams.
Alvarez, meanwhile, has remained focused on international duty with Argentina at the World Cup, stating this week that his priority is preparing for their last-32 clash against Switzerland rather than discussing his club future.
‘If I were him, I’d do it’ – Yamal’s Alvarez message
Despite the uncertainty surrounding a possible move, Yamal has openly welcomed the idea of Alvarez arriving at Barcelona, describing him as the type of player every club would want.
“Everyone knows he’s a top player, the kind everyone wants to play for. I’ve already said it: we’re open to welcoming him, and if he comes, we’ll all be very happy. I think he’s a great fit for Barca’s style,” Yamal said.
The 18-year-old continued his pitch to the forward, highlighting Barcelona’s global appeal and insisting Alvarez would be joining football’s biggest stage.
“He is coming to the best club in the world, the best fans in the world, and the best city in the world, in my opinion. So, if I were him, I’d do it. If he wants to come, we are waiting for him, go ahead.”
Barcelona are expected to return with an improved offer for Alvarez after their opening proposal was rejected, as the club continue their search for attacking reinforcements.
Barcelona target proven goalscorer
Alvarez has established himself as one of Atlético’s most important players since arriving from Manchester City in the summer of 2024 for £81.5 million.
The 26-year-old has delivered a strong return in Spain, scoring 49 goals and providing 17 assists in 106 appearances for Diego Simeone’s side.
His performances have made him a key figure at Atlético, who are reluctant to sanction his departure despite mounting interest and the presence of a €500 million release clause in his contract.
Barcelona’s pursuit could now depend on whether they can convince Atlético to negotiate, but Yamal’s public invitation has added another layer to a transfer battle that could dominate the summer window.
