Joseph Ogbonna: Nigerian defender joins Digenis Morfou on free transfer from Ethnikos Latsion

Nigerian centre-back Joseph Ogbonna has joined Cypriot side Digenis Morfou on a free transfer from Ethnikos Latsion.

The 26-year-old defender has signed a deal running until 31 May 2027, committing the next year of his career to the 2. Division club after leaving Ethnikos at the end of last season.

Ogbonna, who stands at 1.86m and is right-footed, arrives with considerable experience in Cyprus second tier. Across league and relegation round fixtures, he has made more than 50 appearances in the division, contributing two goals from the heart of defence and amassing close to 4,700 minutes of action.

Born in Port Harcourt, Ogbonna first moved into Cypriot football with Othellos Athienou in 2024 following a spell in Spain with UD Sanfer Atletico. He then switched to Ethnikos Latsion in August 2025, also on a free transfer, before earning his latest move to Digenis Morfou.

His cup experience in Cyprus includes outings in the Kypello Kyprou, where he has featured in the national knockout competition alongside his league commitments.

The transfer sees Ogbonna complete a permanent switch within Cyprus 2. Division, joining Digenis Morfou on a free transfer from Ethnikos Latsion.
