Mame Cheikh Diop: SC Staaken sign Senegal defender on free transfer from Berlin Turkspor
SC Staaken have signed Senegalese centre-back Mame Cheikh Diop from Berlin Turkspor on a free transfer in a completed deal within the Berlin-Liga.
The 29-year-old defender, who stands at 1.94m, moves across the capital after a spell with Turkspor, where he established himself in Berlins top amateur division. His arrival strengthens Staakens defensive options ahead of the new campaign, with the club adding an experienced player already well versed in the demands of regional football in the capital.
Diop has been a regular presence in the Berlin-Liga, making 88 appearances and scoring seven goals in the competition over the course of his career. He has also featured in the Berliner Pokal and the NOFV-Oberliga Nord, underlining his familiarity with Germanys north-eastern regional football structure.
Before joining Berlin Turkspor in 2025, Diop spent time with BW Berlin and RSV Eintracht, having first come to wider prominence at TuS Makkabi. With Makkabi he enjoyed the standout achievement of his career to date, winning the Berlin Cup in the 2022-23 season.
Born in Senegal and representing the country at club level, Diop has built a career in Berlins football scene since 2018, consistently operating as a central defender. His move to SC Staaken marks the latest step in that trajectory as he continues in the Berlin-Liga with his new club.
