Lazola Maku: South African midfielder linked with SV Ried move from Siwelele FC

South African midfielder Lazola Maku of Siwelele FC is being linked with a move to Austrian side SV Ried in a potential step into the Bundesliga for the 19-year-old defensive midfielder.

Maku, who wears the number 44 shirt for Siwelele, is currently valued at around 50,000, a figure that could make him an attainable option for Ried as they look to strengthen their midfield options. Early discussions around the deal are understood to be at a preliminary stage, with no agreement in place.

The midfielder joined Siwelele ahead of the 202526 campaign after moving up from SuperSports reserve ranks and has already begun to establish himself in the Betway Premiership. He has made five league appearances this season, totalling 235 minutes, giving him a first sustained taste of top-flight football.

On the international stage, Maku was part of the South Africa Under-20 side that lifted the Under-20 Africa Cup in 2025, an achievement that has helped raise his profile beyond domestic level and alerted European scouts.

While the length of his deal at Siwelele has not been disclosed, the club would be in a position to command a fee should talks with SV Ried advance. For now, Maku remains part of Siweleles senior squad as the South African side prepare for the remainder of their Betway Premiership campaign.
