John Otomewo: Stade Reims eye move for Nigerian Hapoel Jerusalem midfielder

Stade Reims are considering a move for Nigerian defensive midfielder John Otomewo from Hapoel Jerusalem.

The 19-year-old, who plays in the holding role for the Israeli Ligat ha’Al side, is being monitored by the French club as they assess midfield options ahead of the new Ligue 2 campaign. Otomewo is under contract with Hapoel Jerusalem until 30 June 2026, a situation that would likely require a fee for any deal to be agreed.

Born in Sapele, the right-footed midfielder has established himself in the Israeli top flight this season, making 13 league appearances and adding minutes in the relegation round as Hapoel fought to secure their status. He has also shown an eye for goal in knockout competition, scoring once in the State Cup.

Otomewo joined Hapoel Jerusalems senior team in December 2025 after initially arriving at the clubs under-19 side earlier in the season. His rise has drawn attention beyond Israel, with Reims viewing the players combination of size he stands at 1.86m and first-team experience at a young age as potential attributes for the physical demands of Ligue 2.

With his market value currently listed at 2 million and two years left on his deal, Hapoel Jerusalem are in a strong negotiating position, and there is no indication yet that formal talks have progressed. For now, Otomewo remains part of Hapoels plans going into the final year of his contract.
