World Cup 2026: Brazil boss Carlo Ancelotti vows to rebuild after elimination

Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti insists he has no intention of stepping away from international football after his side’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign ended in disappointment following a quarterfinal qualification defeat to Norway.

The five-time world champions were eliminated after Erling Haaland struck twice to secure a 2-1 victory for Norway, ending Brazil’s hopes of lifting another global title. Despite the setback, Ancelotti made it clear that he remains committed to leading the Seleção into a new chapter.

“I don’t think this is the end; I think this is the start of a new cycle,” Ancelotti said at a press conference.

Ancelotti determined to lead Brazil forward

The experienced Italian admitted the World Cup exit was painful but stressed that it would only strengthen his resolve to restore Brazil’s fortunes.

“Being knocked out of a World Cup is always a huge blow,” Ancelotti admitted.

Reflecting on the disappointment, the former club manager insisted the defeat would serve as motivation rather than signal the end of his tenure.

“I am very much used to this; we will use it as fuel going forward,” Ancelotti added, emphasising his future with the Brazilian national team.

He also reassured Brazilian supporters that he would continue working to improve the squad, describing the defeat to Norway as the beginning of a new era rather than the conclusion of one.

Promising campaign ends in disappointment

Brazil arrived in the knockout rounds after an impressive group-stage campaign. They opened with a 1-1 draw against Morocco before recording convincing 3-0 victories over Scotland and Haiti to finish top of their group.

The South Americans then overcame Japan 2-1 in the Round of 32 at Houston Stadium to book their place in the last 16.

However, their World Cup journey came to an end at MetLife Stadium, where Haaland’s brace inspired Norway to a 2-1 victory, sending Brazil out of the tournament and into a period of rebuilding under Ancelotti.
