Morocco star Azzedine Ounahi tipped to leave Girona amid growing Interest
Morocco international Azzedine Ounahi has been tipped to depart Girona in the current summer transfer window amid growing interest in the midfielder.
The midfielder’s stock has continued to rise following his impressive performances for Morocco at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he once again showcased his technical ability, intelligence and composure in midfield.
According to reports, Ounahi’s future at Girona remains uncertain and could depend on discussions involving Enzo Maresca, the new coach of Manchester City.
Girona’s connection with Manchester City comes through the City Football Group, which owns both clubs, meaning Maresca could have an influence on whether Ounahi remains within the group’s plans or is allowed to move elsewhere.
The Manchester City new manager will assess whether the Moroccan midfielder fits into his plans at the Etihad Stadium before making a decision.
Ounahi has attracted interest from a number of European clubs following his rise on the international stage. Italian sides ACF Fiorentina and Genoa CFC are reportedly monitoring his situation, while Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion F.C. and Spanish teams Real Sociedad, Real Betis, RC Celta de Vigo and Atletico de Madrid are also believed to be interested.
The 26-year-old remains under contract with Girona until 2030 and has a reported release clause worth €25 million, which was not reduced despite the club’s relegation to the Spanish second division.
However, Girona could be open to negotiations if they receive an offer slightly above €20 million, potentially paving the way for a summer departure.
For Ounahi, a move could represent another major step in his career after becoming one of Morocco’s most recognizable players in recent years. His performances for the Atlas Lions have established him as a midfielder capable of competing at the highest level, and several clubs are now ready to make their move.
With interest continuing to grow, all eyes will be on the decision made by Girona, Manchester City and the player himself as Ounahi’s future remains one of the intriguing transfer stories of the summer.
