Thabiso Lebitso happy to join Stellenbosch FC

Orlando Pirates defender Thabiso Lebitso has shared his excitement after completing a move to Stellenbosch FC ahead of the new season.

The experienced right-back arrives at the Cape Winelands outfit following a successful campaign with the Buccaneers, where he played a role in the club’s impressive treble-winning season that included the Betway Premiership title.

Lebitso now begins a fresh journey with Stellies, where he is expected to bring leadership, experience, and stability to the squad under head coach Gavin Hunt.

The move also marks a reunion between the defender and Hunt, having previously worked together during their time at Chippa United three seasons ago.

Speaking after his unveiling, the 30-year-old expressed happiness at joining a club he believes is built on strong professional foundations.

“I’m very excited to be here at Stellenbosch FC,” Lebitso said. “This is a very good club, with good structures, so I’m happy to be part of the team.”

The defender went on to praise the organisation and professionalism within the club, insisting those qualities played a major role in his decision to make the switch.

“Stellenbosch FC is a professional club that does things in a proper way in terms of structure and organisation,” he added. “For me, it’s all about professionalism, so I hope to add value, and I’m looking forward to the new season.”

Lebitso also highlighted the club’s commitment to developing young talent, stating that he hopes his experience can help guide the next generation of players within the squad.

“The club has a lot of young players and has done well with that approach, and I can add value for those younger players with my experience,” he explained.

“Hopefully, we can add more pages to the club’s history books together as well.”

Stellenbosch have continued to establish themselves as one of the most ambitious clubs in South African football in recent seasons, with the signing of experienced players such as Lebitso expected to further strengthen their squad ahead of another demanding campaign.

For Lebitso, the move represents an opportunity to play a bigger leadership role while helping the club compete strongly domestically under the guidance of Hunt once again.
