South Africa forward Khanyisa Mayo set for Kaizer Chiefs stay
South Africa attacker Khanyisa Mayo is expected to remain at Kaizer Chiefs ahead of the new Premiership campaign, despite a mixed loan spell at Naturena last season.
The forward spent the previous season on loan at Amakhosi from Algerian side CR Belouizdad, but struggled to make a consistent impact during his time in South African football.
His future had initially been uncertain, largely due to ongoing contractual and financial issues involving his parent club. as per reports, Cape Town City, Mayo’s former team, had taken CR Belouizdad to FIFA over alleged breaches of payment obligations related to the transfer agreement.
The unresolved situation created doubt over whether the striker would return to Chiefs or be moved elsewhere during the off-season.
However, latest indications suggest Kaizer Chiefs are now leaning towards keeping the player as part of their squad as they prepare for a new era under head coach Fernando da Cruz.
Da Cruz, who recently took charge of the Soweto giants, is expected to reshape the team with a focus on competitiveness and silverware ambitions in the upcoming campaign.
For Mayo, staying at Kaizer Chiefs could represent an important opportunity to revive his form and establish himself more firmly in the Betway Premiership after a challenging spell abroad.
The club is believed to value his experience and potential, with the technical team assessing how best to integrate him into their attacking plans for the season ahead.
As preparations continue, Kaizer Chiefs are expected to make further decisions on squad adjustments, but Mayo’s situation appears to be gradually moving toward stability rather than another loan or transfer move.
