AJ Auxerre close in on signing DR Congo defender Christ Makosso
AJ Auxerre are reportedly on the verge of completing the signing of DR Congo defender Christ Makosso from Luton Town.
As per reports, the French outfit have already reached an agreement in principle for the transfer, with the deal valued at around £2 million including performance-related add-ons.
The move is now believed to be in its final stages as the French club push to strengthen their defensive options ahead of the new Ligue 1 campaign.
Makosso is expected to make the switch to France after spending last season on loan at Oxford United, where he continued his development with regular game time in England.
The Congolese defender has attracted growing interest with his physical presence, composure on the ball and defensive versatility. His performances during his spell at Oxford United reportedly convinced Auxerre that he could become an important addition to their squad.
For Luton Town, the move would represent another outgoing transfer as the club continues reshaping its squad for the upcoming season. Although Makosso showed potential during his time in England, opportunities at Luton remained limited, prompting discussions over a permanent exit this summer.
Auxerre are keen to reinforce their backline as they prepare for another demanding Ligue 1 season, and the arrival of Makosso is viewed as a long-term investment with room for further growth and development.
The transfer would also mark an important step in the defender’s career, giving him the opportunity to test himself in one of Europe’s top leagues while continuing to establish himself at international level with the DR Congo.
Once final details are completed and medical examinations concluded, an official announcement from both clubs is expected in the coming days.
