World Cup 2026: Cote d’Ivoire 1-2 Norway Player Ratings
Côte d’Ivoire’s historic World Cup adventure came to an emotional end in Dallas after a dramatic 2-1 defeat to Norway in the Round of 32. A late winner from Erling Haaland denied the African champions a place in the last 16, despite a sensational impact from substitute Amad Diallo, who changed the match after coming off the bench.
Match Report
Norway started brightly and found an early breakthrough through Antonio Nusa. The RB Leipzig winger produced a brilliant solo run, beating two defenders before firing beyond Yahia Fofana to hand the Scandinavians a deserved lead midway through the first half.
The Elephants struggled to create clear openings during the opening hour. Franck Kessie and Ibrahim Sangare battled hard in midfield, but Norway’s disciplined defensive structure kept Ange-Yoan Bonny and Nicolas Pepe largely quiet.
Emerse Fae’s decision to introduce Amad Diallo on the hour mark transformed the contest completely. The Manchester United attacker immediately injected pace, creativity and belief into the Ivorian attack. Before scoring, he produced an extraordinary goal-line clearance to deny Haaland a second goal and keep his side alive.
Diallo got his reward in the 74th minute. Collecting the ball near the edge of the area, he danced past two defenders before drilling a low shot into the far corner to level the scores and send the Ivorian supporters into celebration.
Extra time appeared increasingly likely, but Norway’s superstar delivered once again. Four minutes from time, Patrick Berg’s dangerous cross created confusion inside the penalty area and Haaland reacted quickest to poke home the winner from close range. It was his 60th international goal and perhaps his most important yet.
Despite relentless pressure during seven minutes of added time, Cote d’Ivoire could not find another equaliser and exited the competition with heads held high.
