Tyrique George is edging closer to a permanent move from Chelsea to Everton, with the two Premier League clubs entering fresh negotiations over the 20-year-old’s future.

According to The Athletic, discussions are set to begin this week after Everton revived their interest following George’s impressive loan spell during the second half of the 2025-26 campaign.

The Toffees had an option to make the deal permanent at the end of the loan, but declined to trigger the reported £25 million clause, believing the valuation was too high. Instead, they are now attempting to secure the attacker on improved financial terms through direct negotiations with Chelsea.

Moyes keen to keep rising star

George established himself as an important member of David Moyes’ squad after arriving at the Hill Dickinson Stadium midway through the season.

The young forward stepped into the side following an injury to Jack Grealish and went on to make 11 Premier League appearances, impressing the Everton manager with his energy and attacking contribution.

His performances convinced Everton that he remains a player worth pursuing despite walking away from the original purchase option.

The Merseyside club are now hopeful that a revised agreement can be reached before preparations for the new season gather pace.

Chelsea’s attacking depth opens exit door

George’s path to regular first-team football at Stamford Bridge appears increasingly limited.

Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso has an array of attacking options, including Liam Delap, João Pedro, Nicolas Jackson and Emanuel Emegha, leaving George facing stiff competition for minutes.

With opportunities expected to be scarce, Chelsea are understood to be open to a permanent sale as they continue reshaping their squad and raising funds during the transfer window.

George leaves Stamford Bridge with six assists in 37 senior appearances, having earned praise for his creativity and versatility across the frontline.

Familiar transfer route between the clubs

Chelsea and Everton have built a productive transfer relationship in recent years, making another deal between the clubs far from surprising.

Several players have moved between the sides in recent transfer windows, including Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Armando Broja and Ishe Samuels-Smith.

Chelsea are also expected to oversee further departures this summer as they continue to streamline their squad, with defenders Benoît Badiashile, Tosin Adarabioyo and Wesley Fofana among those linked with exits.

Should negotiations progress smoothly, George could become the latest player to swap west London for Merseyside as Everton look to secure one of Moyes’ preferred targets before the new Premier League season begins.
