Achraf Hakimi eyes World Cup title with Morocco

Morocco captain Achraf Hakimi has revealed his outfit title ambitions ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup round 32 clash against Netherlands.

The Atlas Lions will take on the European outfit in highly anticipated knockout clash, scheduled for Monday.

Speaking on the YouTube programme ABtalks, the Paris Saint Germain star stressed winning the World Cup remains the ultimate dream for him and his country.

“Winning the World Cup would be the greatest success I could achieve. What would winning the World Cup mean to us? There are no words. I think we are capable of doing it, but we know we have to focus on every match,” he said.

Hakimi acknowledged the difficulty of the challenge ahead but insisted Morocco will continue to push as far as possible in the tournament.

“Things will be 100% difficult, but we will do our best to go as far as possible, and why not? We might even win the World Cup one day,” he added.

The Paris Saint-Germain star also highlighted the historic significance such an achievement would carry, not only for Morocco but for Africa as a whole.

“That would be amazing, it would be the first time in history for an African team, and also in the history of Morocco, so I think the country would go crazy with joy,” Hakimi said.

He concluded by expressing a personal dream of lifting the trophy as captain, describing it as an extraordinary moment.

“I would really like to see that one day, and it would be very special for me as a captain to lift the trophy; it would be something extraordinary.”

Morocco now shift focus to their clash with the Netherlands, where they will aim to continue their impressive run on the world stage.
