Wydad AC coach Benchrifa rues missed chances after 2-1 defeat to Fath Union Sport
Wydad coach Mohamed Benchrifa lamented missed chances and the absence of key players after his side suffered a 2-1 defeat to Fath Union Sport, insisting small details ultimately decided the contest despite his team’s strong determination to secure victory.
Speaking after the match, Benchrifa revealed that Wydad approached the encounter determined to secure all three points despite dealing with challenges within the squad.
The Moroccan tactician acknowledged that the absence of several influential players affected the team’s performance, while also wishing captain Hakim Ziyech a quick recovery.
Benchrifa stressed that his players prepared well and showed strong commitment throughout the game, but noted that football matches are often decided by fine margins.
According to the Wydad coach, failing to take their chances ultimately made the difference, as Fath Union Sport capitalised on important moments during the contest.
He further called on his players to remain focused and continue improving ahead of their upcoming fixtures as the team looks to bounce back from the setback.
Meanwhile, Fath Union Sport coach Said Chiba praised his players after what he described as a crucial victory away from home.
Chiba stated that his side travelled to Casablanca with confidence and determination despite facing one of Morocco’s biggest clubs, adding that his players showed character and discipline throughout the match.
The Fath coach also believed his team could have scored more goals after creating several clear opportunities, but expressed satisfaction with both the result and overall display.
He concluded by highlighting the importance of the victory as the team continues building momentum for the rest of the season.
