Mamelodi Sundowns sign Antonio van Wyk in €1m deal as forward returns home

Mamelodi Sundowns have strengthened their attacking options with the signing of South African forward Antonio van Wyk from Austrian outfit SV Ried in a deal reported to be worth just over €1 million.

The 24-year-old returns to South Africa after a spell in Europe, with his transfer marking the most expensive sale in SV Ried’s history.

Van Wyk joined the Austrian club in September 2024 and quickly established himself as an important figure during their promotion campaign to the Bundesliga.

In the 2025/26 season, he contributed three goals and four assists in 29 league appearances, playing a key role in their top-flight survival push.

Speaking during his unveiling, Van Wyk reflected positively on his time abroad and expressed pride in joining one of Africa’s most successful clubs.

“Spending time away [in Europe] has been an incredible experience that helped me grow as a footballer and as a person,” he said.

“This is one of the biggest clubs on the continent. A club with a rich history, high standards and a winning culture.

“To the supporters, your passion for this club is unmatched and I cannot wait to experience that on match day.

“I’m excited for this journey. My name is Antonio van Wyk and I’m proud to be Yellow.”

The forward’s arrival adds depth to Sundowns’ attacking unit as the reigning South African champions continue to reinforce their squad ahead of domestic and continental campaigns, where expectations remain high.
