World Cup 2026: Following Morocco at the could cost fans up to 45,000 dirhams
Supporting Morocco at the 2026 World Cup could require a financial commitment of up to 45,000 dirhams, with travel, accommodation and domestic transportation emerging as the biggest expenses for fans hoping to attend all three group-stage matches in the United States.
While match tickets are available from 550 dirhams, the overall cost of following the Atlas Lions throughout the group phase is significantly higher once flights, visas, hotels and intercity travel are taken into account.
The Royal Moroccan Football Federation has launched a dedicated ticketing platform for Morocco’s group-stage fixtures.
Access to the platform is reserved for supporters who have booked their travel through Royal Air Maroc.
To meet demand, the national carrier has scheduled 32 special flights to the United States and expects to transport more than 8,800 Moroccan supporters during the tournament.
According to information relayed by Laquotidienne and reported by Faraj, Morocco’s group-stage schedule will take supporters across three major American cities.
The Atlas Lions are set to face Brazil in the New York and New Jersey area before travelling to Boston for a meeting with Scotland.
Their final group-stage match is scheduled to take place in Atlanta against Haiti.
For many supporters, the ticket price itself is not the main challenge.
Although entry to matches starts at 550 dirhams, the cost of reaching and moving around the United States quickly becomes the most significant financial burden.
A return flight alone is estimated at around 10,000 dirhams.
Fans must also factor in the cost of obtaining a US visa, travel insurance and other administrative requirements, which together amount to nearly 1,800 dirhams.
Accommodation adds another major expense.
A mid-range hotel room in New York can cost more than $250 per night, equivalent to nearly 2,500 dirhams.
Similar prices are expected in Boston, while Atlanta is considered slightly more affordable.
For supporters determined to attend every Morocco match during the group stage, travel between host cities must also be included in the budget.
The journey from New York to Boston covers more than 340 kilometres, while the distance between Boston and Atlanta approaches 1,500 kilometres.
These additional movements increase transportation costs and add further hotel stays, making a full tournament experience considerably more expensive than attending a single fixture.
Estimates suggest that a fan travelling to the United States for one Morocco match could spend between 18,000 and 25,000 dirhams.
However, supporters planning to follow the Atlas Lions through all three group-stage matches may need a budget ranging from 30,000 to 45,000 dirhams.
The breakdown includes approximately 10,000 dirhams for international flights, between 12,000 and 18,000 dirhams for accommodation, and an additional 3,000 to 7,000 dirhams for domestic travel.
These figures do not include meals, local transport, shopping or other personal expenses that may arise during the trip.
Despite the high costs, many Moroccan supporters are already making plans to attend.
Several fans have reportedly begun saving months in advance to turn their World Cup dream into reality.
One supporter living in Boston explained that he opened a dedicated savings account specifically for the tournament and intends to reduce costs by sharing accommodation and other expenses with friends.
Another fan who travelled to Qatar for Morocco’s memorable World Cup campaign pointed out a key difference between the two tournaments.
In Qatar, stadiums and host cities were located relatively close to one another, making travel easier and less expensive.
In the United States, by contrast, long distances between venues and multiple hotel stays represent the largest financial challenge.
As anticipation grows ahead of the competition, supporters have already started organising themselves online.
Social media groups are being used to coordinate travel arrangements, accommodation bookings and visa applications.
For many fans, supporting Morocco at the World Cup remains a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Yet with matches spread across several cities in the United States, following the Atlas Lions from start to finish will require careful planning—and a substantial budget.
