Platinum Stars emerged victorious in the final of the MTN 8, a competition that features the top eight teams in the South African championship at the start of the season. The final was contested against Orlando Pirates and concluded with a penalty shootout, where Platinum Stars prevailed with a 3-1 score.
The regular and extra time ended with a 1-1 draw, with Robert Ng’ambi giving Platinum Stars the lead in the first half and Thabo Matlaba equalizing for Orlando Pirates in the second half. In the subsequent penalty shootout, only Andile Jali managed to convert his shot for Orlando Pirates.
Platinum Stars claimed the championship and the accompanying $800,000 in prize money.
