Leverkusen’s Dutch star Frimpong rejects Ghana’s call to switch allegiance

Bayer Leverkusen’s defensive sensation Jeremie Frimpong has confirmed that the Ghana Football Association made overtures to secure his allegiance to the Black Stars. However, the Dutch-born player opted to decline the offer, harboring aspirations to represent the Netherlands national team.

Despite having the opportunity to choose between Ghana, the Netherlands, and England at the international level, Frimpong remained steadfast in his decision to play for the Dutch national team.

The talented defender recently marked his debut for the Netherlands in a Euro qualifier against France in October, effectively closing the chapter on any potential involvement with Ghana.

Reflecting on his debut, Frimpong expressed his satisfaction, stating, “It was good to finally make my debut against France. It was a great match and I was very happy with it. The coach called me, I had a conversation with him, but my decision was already made.”

At 22 years old, Frimpong has showcased remarkable form in the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen, notching up an impressive 13 goals across all competitions. His performances have garnered attention, with FC Barcelona reportedly eyeing him as the winter transfer window looms.

Frimpong’s decision to decline Ghana’s offer underscores his commitment to his chosen path, setting the stage for an exciting international career with the Netherlands. As the young star continues to shine on the pitch, the eyes of football enthusiasts remain fixed on his journey, with potential moves to renowned clubs adding another layer to his burgeoning legacy.
