Real Sociedad are being linked with a summer move for German-Nigerian goalkeeper Noah Atubolu, 24, who currently plays for Bundesliga side Freiburg.
The La Liga club are monitoring the 1.90m stopper, with the latest speculation on 9 June 2026 putting the probability of a deal at around 15%. Atubolu, Freiburg’s No 1 and one of the Bundesliga’s higher-rated young goalkeepers, is listed with a market value of €25.00m.
Born in Freiburg im Breisgau on 25 May 2002, Atubolu has risen through the ranks at his hometown club and now wears the number one shirt for SC Freiburg. He holds dual nationality – Germany and Nigeria – and plays as a right-footed goalkeeper.
Freiburg have not publicly indicated a willingness to sell and there is no publicly available end date on Atubolu’s current deal, meaning he is not understood to be close to free-agent status or a contract expiry. Any move to San Sebastián would therefore be expected to involve a significant fee, rather than a free transfer.
The reported interest from Real Sociedad comes on the back of another solid campaign for Freiburg, with Atubolu establishing himself in the Bundesliga. In a recent outing for Freiburg – a late-season league fixture in which his side faced domestic opposition and finished with a narrow scoreline – the 24-year-old again produced a composed display, underlining why his profile is beginning to attract attention outside Germany.
Atubolu’s development at Freiburg, combined with his age and €25.00m valuation, makes him a longer-term goalkeeping option rather than a short-term stopgap. Should Real Sociedad firm up their interest, a move to La Liga could represent a defining step in shaping his reputation at the top level and clarifying whether his next chapter comes in Spain or as a long-term cornerstone in Freiburg.
