Angola FA pushes for Castello Lukeba nationality switch
The Angolan Football Federation is actively working to secure the international future of highly rated defender Castello Lukeba.
The 23-year-old centre-back, who currently plays for RB Leipzig, remains one of the most promising young defenders in European football and has already attracted attention at international level with France.
Angola’s vice-president of the football federation confirmed that discussions are ongoing with the player, as the country looks to strengthen its squad with high-profile talent capable of making an immediate impact.
“We’ve had a conversation. We’re trying to convince him to join our project,” he said. However, he also acknowledged the complexity of the situation, noting that Lukeba was previously included in France’s preliminary squad for the upcoming World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
According to him, Angola’s technical leadership, alongside the federation, is actively working to attract players who could elevate the national team’s competitiveness on the global stage.
The potential switch would represent a significant coup for Angola, who are keen to build a stronger squad capable of competing at the highest level internationally. Lukeba’s profile, experience in top-tier European football, and defensive quality make him an ideal candidate for such ambitions.
At club level, the 23-year-old has established himself as a key figure in the Bundesliga, earning praise for his composure, physical presence, and tactical awareness. His performances have positioned him as one of the most exciting defensive prospects in his age group.
Angola are expected to continue their efforts in the coming months as they attempt to convince eligible players with dual nationality to commit to their national project ahead of major international competitions.
If successful, Lukeba’s arrival would be seen as a major statement of intent from Angola, significantly strengthening their defensive options and boosting their long-term ambitions on the international stage.
