Hamburg has appointed its third coach in the span of a week, following the departure of Thorsten Fink. The new coach is Bert van Marwijk, the former coach of the Netherlands, and his official presentation to the press took place on Wednesday.
Van Marwijk, who was vice-world champion, shared his perspective, saying, “I think that every team needs pressure, that with pressure you give more. I like attacking football but also well-organized play. We must learn to defend collectively.” The Dutch coach was relieved of his duties after Euro 2012 while leading the Netherlands.
He takes over from the interim duo of Ghanaian Otto Addo and Rodolfo Cardoso. Hamburg currently finds itself in a challenging 16th place out of 18 in the Bundesliga standings. Van Marwijk’s task will be to instill a positive change and guide the team to better performances.
